General Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms before using the AFM website or purchasing a magazine, archive issue or subscription. By placing an order, you agree to the Terms that apply at the time of purchase.

1. About these Terms

These General Terms & Conditions ('Terms') govern the use of the Arena Fantasy Magazine ('AFM') website and the purchase of AFM digital magazines, archive issues and subscriptions. They also set out general rules relating to website content, payments, digital delivery, intellectual property and liability.

Separate terms may apply to writing competitions, submissions, advertising bookings or other specific AFM services. Where separate terms are provided for a particular service, those specific terms will apply in addition to these Terms and will take priority if there is a direct conflict.

3. Using the AFM website

  • You may use the AFM website for lawful personal or business purposes connected with reading, purchasing, submitting to, advertising with or otherwise engaging with AFM.
  • You must not misuse the website, attempt to interfere with its operation, introduce malicious code, gain unauthorised access, or use AFM content in a way that infringes intellectual-property or other legal rights.
  • AFM may update, suspend, withdraw or change parts of the website where reasonably necessary, including for maintenance, security, editorial changes or changes to services.
  • AFM aims to keep information accurate and current, but availability, publication plans, prices and promotional details may change. The information shown at checkout or in a specific written agreement will govern the relevant purchase.

4. Digital magazines and archive issues

AFM magazines and archive issues are supplied digitally, normally as PDF files or by a digital download/delivery method stated at the time of purchase. No printed copy is included unless AFM expressly states otherwise.

Archive issues are historical editions. Their original editorial content, prices, links, advertisements, contact details and references may no longer be current. They are supplied as archive material and may reflect AFM's earlier branding and operations.

You are responsible for having a compatible device, internet connection and software capable of opening the supplied digital format.

5. Prices and payment

Prices are displayed on the AFM website or payment page in pounds sterling (GBP). The price shown when you place your order is the price that applies to that order, subject to correction of an obvious pricing error before supply.

Current AFM offer / product Current published price
Relaunch Issue One promotional price £1.00 during the advertised promotional period
Standard single new issue £4.50
Annual subscription £16.00 for 4 digital issues
Two-year subscription £28.00 for 8 digital issues
Quarterly recurring subscription £4.50 every 3 months
Individual AFM archive issue £1.50
Complete seven-issue AFM archive £7.00

Promotional prices and offers may have stated expiry dates. AFM may change future prices at any time, but a price change will not retrospectively alter a completed one-off purchase. For recurring subscriptions, any change to future renewal pricing will be communicated as required before it takes effect.

Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers including PayPal and Stripe. Their own terms and privacy information may also apply. AFM does not normally receive or store your full card or bank details

6. Orders and contract formation

An order is an offer to purchase the selected AFM product or subscription. A contract is formed when AFM or its payment provider confirms the order, unless AFM promptly informs you that the order cannot be accepted.

AFM may refuse or cancel an order before supply where there is a genuine payment problem, obvious pricing or technical error, suspected fraud or misuse, or where the product cannot reasonably be supplied. If AFM cancels an order after taking payment and no product has been supplied, the relevant payment will be refunded.

7. Digital delivery

Digital purchases and subscription issues will normally be delivered to the email address supplied during payment or ordering, or by another delivery method clearly stated at checkout. You are responsible for providing a current and accurate email address and for checking spam or junk folders.

AFM aims to deliver purchased archive material and available issues promptly. Future subscription issues are normally published in March, June, September and December, with AFM's current intended release date being the 10th of the relevant month unless otherwise announced.

If you have paid for an issue and have not received access within a reasonable period, contact AFM at contact-us@arenafantasymagazine.co.uk so the delivery can be checked and, where appropriate, re-sent.

8. Subscriptions

8.1 Annual and two-year subscriptions

Annual and two-year subscriptions are prepaid subscriptions covering the number of digital issues stated at purchase. They do not automatically renew unless AFM expressly states otherwise at checkout.

The starting issue for a prepaid subscription will be the issue identified on the website, checkout or order confirmation. If no starting issue is expressly stated, AFM will clarify this before or shortly after processing the order.

8.2 Quarterly recurring subscription

The quarterly subscription is a recurring subscription currently charged at £4.50 every three months. Payment is taken automatically through Stripe until the subscription is cancelled.

Unless the checkout states otherwise, the first payment is taken when the subscription is started and subsequent payments are taken at approximately three-month intervals. The relevant issue entitlement and billing information will be shown or confirmed at purchase.

You may cancel the recurring subscription before the next renewal through the cancellation method made available by Stripe or by contacting AFM. Cancellation stops future renewal charges; it does not normally reverse a payment that has already fallen due, except where required by law or agreed by AFM.

AFM will comply with any mandatory consumer requirements that apply to recurring subscriptions, including any applicable pre-contract information, cancellation, reminder or renewal requirements in force at the relevant time.

9. Cancellation rights and digital content

Consumers purchasing online may have statutory cancellation rights. Digital magazines are digital content supplied without a tangible medium, and special rules apply when digital supply begins during the normal cancellation period.

Where AFM supplies digital content immediately or before the end of the applicable statutory cancellation period, AFM may ask you to expressly consent to immediate supply and acknowledge that, once supply begins, you may lose the statutory right to cancel that digital-content purchase.

If the required consent or acknowledgement has not been obtained, your statutory rights remain unaffected. Nothing in these Terms removes or limits any cancellation, refund or other consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Refunds, faults and non-delivery

Because AFM products are digital, a change of mind after lawful immediate digital supply has begun will not normally qualify for a refund where the statutory cancellation right has been validly lost.

This does not affect your legal rights if digital content is faulty, not as described, cannot be supplied, or has not been delivered as agreed. If you experience a problem, contact AFM with the purchaser name, email address and payment reference where available.

Where a refund is due, AFM will normally return it using the original payment method unless another method is agreed or required.

11. Intellectual property and permitted use

Unless otherwise stated, the AFM name, branding, website text, layout and AFM-created material are protected by intellectual-property rights. Individual contributors may retain copyright in their own work, subject to the permissions granted to AFM for publication.

A purchased digital issue is licensed to the purchaser for personal, non-commercial reading. You may download and store a reasonable personal copy for your own use.

You must not reproduce, republish, upload, resell, distribute, share publicly, make available through file-sharing services, or commercially exploit an AFM issue or substantial part of it without permission from the relevant rights holder.

12. Contributor and third-party material

AFM issues may include articles, fiction, artwork, interviews, advertisements, links and other material supplied by contributors or third parties. Views expressed by contributors are their own unless expressly stated to be AFM's editorial position.

Third-party websites, products and services are outside AFM's control. A link, advertisement or reference does not by itself amount to an endorsement, guarantee or continuing recommendation

13. Competitions, submissions and advertising

Writing competitions are governed by the competition-specific rules and AFM Competition Terms published for the relevant competition. Those documents cover matters such as eligibility, entry fees, deadlines, judging, prizes, publication and insufficient-entry provisions.

General submissions are subject to AFM's published submission requirements and any permissions agreed with the contributor. Submitting work does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Advertising enquiries, quotations and bookings may be subject to separate written terms, specifications, deadlines and approval requirements. A quotation or enquiry does not reserve advertising space unless AFM confirms the booking.

14. Availability and editorial changes

AFM may make reasonable editorial, design, scheduling or production changes before publication. Cover artwork, featured content, page count, contributors and release details may change before an issue is finalised.

If a significant delay or change prevents AFM from supplying a paid product or subscription entitlement, AFM will offer an appropriate remedy, replacement, extension or refund where required by law.

15. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or statutory consumer rights that cannot be excluded.

Subject to those rights, AFM is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed, losses caused by circumstances outside AFM's reasonable control, or business losses suffered by a consumer using AFM products wholly for personal purposes.

AFM's writing, publishing and creative-content features are provided for general information and inspiration. They are not legal, financial, tax or professional publishing advice.

16. Privacy

AFM handles personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy explains what information AFM collects, how it is used, the service providers that may process it, marketing communications, retention and your data-protection rights.

17. Changes to these Terms

AFM may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in services, prices, payment methods or legal requirements. The version in force when a one-off order is placed will normally govern that order. For an ongoing subscription, material changes affecting future renewals will be communicated where required.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, this does not remove any mandatory protections or rights you have under the law applicable to you.

AFM encourages customers to contact AFM first so that any complaint or dispute can be investigated and, where possible, resolved informally.

20. Cancellation request template (where a cancellation right applies)

You do not have to use this template, but you may copy and send it to AFM if you have a statutory or contractual right to cancel. For digital content supplied immediately with your express consent and acknowledgement, your statutory cancellation right may already have ended once supply began.
